    Ginko Leaf Door Knocker

    $225.00
Date: December 30, 2021  Time:  2PM - 10 PM Location: Adam's Forge Would you like to make something in the forge that you’d be proud to mount on your door or give as a gift? This door knocker may be just the class you’ve been waiting for. Adam’s Forge instructor Dossain Valencia created this project with the seasoned intermediate smith in mind. The successful student in this class will have good hammer technique and be able to forge to precise dimension. Skills used include: Using a guillotine tool to isolate material for the top leaf Using a cross pein hammer to spread the Ginko leaves Scrolling Using the swage block and a fuller to create an off-set loop on the back plate and to create the smaller ring on the bottom of the larger ring Drilling or hot punching and riveting This class runs from 2:00pm to 10:00pm with an hour meal break.  While the material isn’t heavy and there won’t be a lot of strenuous hammering, we’re allowing extra time for the fitting and adjustments required to create precision work. Prerequisite: Any Discovery Class.   This is not a class for beginning smiths.   Students who’ve also taken 2-3 project classes, spent time in open forge and have developed confidence and precision with hammer control will have a more satisfying experience in this class.

    Heart Hook

    $150.00
Date: December 12, 2021 Time: 9 AM - 1 PM Location: Adam's Forge In this fun class, students will forge a steel bar into a heart shaped wall hook under the guidance of Adam’s Forge instructor John Drayer. In addition to making something both functional and beautiful, students will have a chance to refine and strengthen their forging skills, including:
    • Using a chisel to hot-cut the steel.
    • Learning the use of a ‘convenience’ bend to isolate the ends of the heart for tapering and scrolling
    • Creating decorative elements such as twists
    • Using the horn of the anvil to turn both the hook and the heart lobes
    • Hot punching or drilling the holes for attaching the hook to a surface
If you’ve had a chance to make your own hot cut or cold chisel, this is the perfect opportunity to use it! Students will have the option of punching or drilling a hole into their piece for a screw with the drill press. They can finish their piece with a wire wheel or use a finishing wax. This wall hook is a simple and attractive piece and John will explain how you can incorporate these design elements into your own projects using the concepts taught in class.  It’s a perfect gift to make for friends and family that allows the continuation of basic blacksmithing techniques. This is an opportunity to get artistic with metal and add a unique touch to home décor! This class is specifically designed for the beginning smith with just Discovery or a couple of classes under their belt who wishes to build on their skill set.  Prerequisite is any Discovery class. This class runs for 4 hours.

    Iron Age Knife

    $175.00
Prerequisite: Any Discovery Class or Letter Opener class Date: December 1, 2021 Time: 10 AM - 4 PM Location: Adam's Forge In this class, Adam’s Forge instructor Will Larranaga will help equip you for a Viking adventure by teaching you to make a small iron age knife.  Not only is this an attractive tool, it’s also a pleasure to make, especially for those with little blacksmithing experience.  One of the advantages of this design is that it’s a one-piece knife; you don’t have the extra work of creating and attaching a handle. This enables you to bring home a beautiful and functional finished product. In this class, you’ll practice moving metal to specific dimensions, tapering and turning the beautifully curved handle.  You’ll also gain experience in learning to hold awkward shapes while striking them.  Hint: using the right tongs helps!
