    Discovery BBQ Tool

    $175.00
Prerequisite: None. This is the first workshop to take. Suggested skill level: Beginner and up Date: March 9, 2024 Time: 4 PM  - 8 PM Location: Adam's Forge Are you a grill master? Do your weekends revolve around the smoking of various proteins? Do you live and breathe charcoal and fire? Then there’s one thing your rig needs: your very own, hand-made BBQ tool, forged in fire five times hotter than any grill. This workshop is perfect for beginners. Because you’re working with longer steel, you can mostly use your hands instead of tongs, which means you can focus on learning the basics of hammering and temperature control without having to also focus on manipulating the tongs. For more experienced blacksmiths, there’s lots of opportunity to experiment with different techniques. And best of all, you’ll go home with your very own, one-of-a-kind BBQ tool! Sound complicated? We promise it’s not. We’ll teach you everything you need to know. Please note: the first week that registration for this workshop is open, spots may only be purchased by members. If you find you are unable to register, please check back after that first week has passed, or consider becoming a member of Adam’s Forge. Frontier Belt Knife

    $750.00
Date: March 13, 14, 15 & 16 Time: 9 AM - 5 PM Location: Adam's Forge Prerequisites: Letter Opener Discovery plus Introduction to Bladesmithing or 2-3 of our blade classes or equivalent.
Skill Level: Seasoned beginner and up.
This workshop is for the Frontier Belt Knife only.  If you'd like to make your own custom leather sheath, you can sign up here. Please note: This class takes place over four consecutive morning/afternoon classes.

    Wednesday 3/13/24 through Saturday 3/16/24 from 9:00am - 5:00pm

    Students must attend all sessions.

Whether you're horseback riding up in the rugged Yukon or the foothills of the Sierras, you'll want to make sure you have this Bowie belt knife by your side. Nothing says adventure and exploration like this extensive knife course to bring your skill set on par with blacksmiths from Early America. If you are a serious survivalist, camper, outdoorsman, or into bushcraft, then this class is tailor made for you. Take it with you wherever you decide to go and know you have a piece forged by you that can stand up to the rigors of untamed nature.

Come to Adam’s Forge to make your own knife inspired by those the pioneer hunters in early America would have carried alongside them into the unknown wilderness. Over this four-day workshop, students will forge out their own knives. For those who want to complete the mountain man feel, we’re offering a separate, optional workshop in which you’ll craft the leather and rawhide sheath. Work with our lead instructor, Dossain Valencia, to learn the major points in forging, heat treating, and fitting the Frontier belt knife. We will be covering handle sculpting, texturing, and basic leather and rawhide working techniques.

Students should be familiar with blade forging processes and have prior prerequisites met to get the most out of this class. Attention to detail on hand hammer techniques to end with a knife that is as close as we can get it to final dimensions is the name of the game.

These workshops are 8 hours long with an hour meal break.

Please note: All classes are released for member-only early registration for one week before they're available for general registration.  If you're unable to add this class to your cart, you can wait for general release or join our membership program at any time!

    Ursa Minor with Mark Aspery

    $225.00
Date: March 10, 2024 Suggested Skill Level: Seasoned Beginner and up Prerequisites: Any Discovery workshop plus 3 or more project classes or equivalent experience. Confident, accurate hammer blows are required to successfully use hot punches. Time: 9 AM - 5 PM Location: Adam's Forge Instructor: Mark Aspery

We are so excited to be able to offer this workshop with Mark Aspery, the man who wrote the book on blacksmithing. Literally. Actually, he wrote three books specifically for those learning blacksmithing.  You’ll learn how to squish hot steel around to create a sculptural bear head. These skills and tooling can be used to create many different animal and fantasy creatures. One of Mark’s superpowers is to help smiths understand how the material works and the design and use of tooling to accomplish the desired outcome.

We’ll be looking at design considerations, material choices, and tooling while demonstrating some of the tips and techniques involved in forging precise, realistic pieces.  Mark is a certified journeyman smith with the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths, a United Kingdom guild founded in London in 1324. He is also a certified Farrier with the American Farriers Association.

This workshop runs from 9:00am – 5:00pm with an hour meal break.

Please note: the first week that registration for this workshop is open, spots may only be purchased by members. If you find you are unable to register, please check back after that first week has passed, or consider becoming a member of Adam’s Forge. All proceeds go towards supporting our amazing organization, and membership will bring you exclusive events and opportunities, along with a community of other blacksmiths!
