And you'll come home with a useful item that you forged on your own! Come discover blacksmithing for yourself! SAFETY NOTES: Metalworking involves a certain amount of inherent risk. Many of the tools and techniques used at Adam’s Forge are capable of causing injury. Tools can burn, cut, and abrade. These are merely examples and not a complete list of dangers. If we are all aware and use safe practices we can minimize those dangers, hence the need for a safety policy. Each smith is responsible for their own safety as well as the safety of others nearby. Participants must have instructor clearance before they use any tool. The minimum age to register for this class is 12 years old. All students between the ages of 12 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult while at the Forge. HYDRATION: If you’re not sweating you’re probably not doing it right. Boots, with the pants outside the boot top will prevent the hot and sharp metal fragments from getting in and burning your feet. Tools and equipment are provided without extra charge. Eye protection is mandatory. Please bring your own safety glasses, or we can provide a new unused pair at no additional cost. Gloves are optional. We recommend that you bring a pair in case you have trouble getting hot pieces in and out of the forge. Straight Blade Carving Knife

    $235.00
Date: December 19, 2021  Time:  9 AM - 5 PM Location: Adam's Forge This is a project class that will satisfy both those who want to make their own tools as well as those who want to make knives.  This knife is based on the traditional Wharncliffe blade and is suitable for whittling and carving wood. Using 3/8 inch round 01 tool steel, Adam’s Forge instructor Leif Bennett will demonstrate how to forge the blade and the stick tang.  You’ll learn how to file, safely grind and heat treat the steel.  Then, while the blades are in the tempering oven, you’ll shape the handle from a single piece of hardwood.  Leif will demonstrate shaping with rasps and files and students will also have the option of using belt grinders.  The handles will be finished with hand sanding and an oil finish.  The class finishes up with making a square hole in the handle to take the tang and fixing the blade in place with two-part epoxy. As this is a small blade, it’s a great class for the aspiring bladesmith who’s made a few knives and wants to practice those skills. Skills practiced include: Forging a taper to shape the blade Isolating material using the edge of the anvil to create the tang Precise forging to dimension Gauging steel temperatures through close monitoring of the forge Heat treating high carbon steel Filing, grinding & sanding Drilling and burning a hole in wood Using epoxy   Prerequisite: The Discovery or Letter Opener class plus the Iron Age Knife class or similar experience.  This class is most appropriate for students who’ve had experience making knives and can forge to dimension. Woven Bracelet

    $150.00
Date: December 15, 2021 Time: 6 PM - 10 PM Location: Adam's Forge Are you ready to forge weld?  Up until modern times, this skill was a closely guarded secret.  In this class, you’ll take a single round bar and using some clever hot folding and forge welding, create a three-piece bracelet.  Adam’s Forge instructor Amanda Kazarian will demonstrate the forge welding, twisting and forming of the open basket weave and finally show you how to form it into a beautiful bracelet that you can custom fit to your liking. The skills learned in this class will easily translate to a wide variety of other items and uses. From hardware to handles to pure ornamentation, this basket weave is a classic design element you’ll want to have in your repertoire. This class is most appropriate for the advancing smith with an interest in building skills and technique. While it is not required, we have found that students who have taken several project classes or workshops with us and/or spent time in Open Forge before starting this project are more successful and get more out of this class.  All students must have taken a Discovery class with us.
