Here’s a chance to try your hand at some fundamental metallurgy. With help from our skilled instructors, you’ll make your own pattern welded, laminated steel billet. We’ll learn team striking with sledgehammers, so if you want to bring a friend and make some billets together, all the better. Both strength and stamina will be required. You’ll learn about the properties of different metals and how they relate to each other. We’ll cover some of the fundamentals of design options in packing your canister, as well as an introduction to some of the theories behind pattern development.
If you’ve been wanting to make some Damascus steel, this is a great place to start. Each student will make one Damascus billet. Photos of knives in relation to this class are for illustrating the possibilities of what can be made with the billets. We're not making knives in this class. This class takes place over two days and students must attend both sessions. There will be a one hour meal break in each session.
Session I: Saturday June 18th from 9am – 5pm
Session II: Sunday June 26th from 9am – 3pm
Fee: $450
