    $200.00
Click here to see all Knife workshop dates and times Date: September 14, 2024 Time: 9 AM - 3 PM Location: Adam's Forge Instructor: Will Larranaga Prerequisite: Letter Opener Discovery Class.  The more experienced smith will get more out of this workshop. Suggested Skill Level: Beginner and up

Join us for a refreshing workshop centered around used, found, vintage, and salvaged materials. The focus of this class is not around finishing a project, but methods and best practices when using found materials. From old tools to rebar and leaf springs, it's all useful and begging to be turned into something new. Turn that old pipe wrench in your garage into an interesting new knife that will be a great talking piece! Reforge some of that leaf spring that you have laying around into a new hot punching set for your next blacksmithing project! The possibilities will surprise you and the skills you take away from this workshop will be useful in many different blade or tool forging applications.

In this workshop we will discuss safety issues that must be taken into consideration with any steel that is old or used as well as heat treatment of steels that are not known to us. We will then demonstrate safe preparation of our steel prior to forging. This will be followed by a hot forging demonstration on bringing an old tool to life to become a working tool.

This workshop will be taught with an emphasis on blades but we also encourage participants to explore other types of tooling and can guide those that wish to make tools. This class is best for beginner to seasoned smiths that want to try to expand their materials knowledge, heat treatment, and creativity.

Participants are encouraged to bring in tools and found materials if they wish, however they are not required as we will also provide plenty for students to pick and choose from.

Class runs from 9am - 3pm with a one hour meal break. Please note: All classes are released for member-only early registration for one week before they're available for general registration.  If you're unable to add this class to your cart, you can wait for general release or join our membership program at any time!

The instructor will demonstrate various design options, including different styles of twists and surface textures, and they’ll assist you as you create your own magic. Once your wand is made, your instructor will show you how to add an optional magical orb (otherwise known as a marble) to the top of the wand for extra special power. Finally, they will go over finishing options.
