    Architectural Bracket

    $175.00
Prerequisite: Any Discovery Class Date: February 19, 2022 Time: 9 AM - 3 PM Location: Adam's Forge Do you want to expand your skills as a blacksmith? This is a class that can help! Much of the beauty of hand-forged ironwork comes from the use of traditional joinery. In this class, we’ll build on the basic skills introduced in the Discovery class, such as tapering, twisting and scrolling. To these, we’ll add hot cutting, punching and riveting, to really expand the possibilities of what you can make. You’ll start with 3 pieces of steel that you’ll forge, taper and twist. You’ll also learn how to hot cut, punch, then rivet and assemble them into a wall-mounted bracket.  Let your imagination go wild!  Will it hold a hanging lamp, a banner or plants?   This bracket is both decorative and functional.  And what a great personalized gift! Under the guidance of Adam’s Forge Instructor John Drayer, students will expand their craft and develop their understanding of more advanced blacksmithing projects. Pre-requisite: we require that students take at least a Discovery class prior to this class. While not required, we’ve found that students who’ve also taken 2-3 project classes and have developed some confidence with hammer control will have a more satisfying experience in this class. The class runs for 6 hours with a one-hour lunch break.

    Black Cat Bottle Opener

    $150.00
Date: January 16, 2022 Time: 4 PM - 8 PM Location: Adam's Forge Adam's Forge instructor Dossain Valencia gives a feline slant to the punch and drift bottle opener.  In this class, you'll use a slot punch to pierce steel, then drive drifts through the hole to progressively enlarge the opening before shaping it on the horn of the anvil. In this case we will be using these techniques to create a bottle opener, but they are essential skills for a blacksmith to understand and master in order to create additional projects like hammer heads, axe eyes, and a myriad of other projects from creating tooling to artistic endeavors. In this class we will cover skills like... Marking steel to ensure you punch in the intended location. How to punch and pierce steel efficiently without damaging tools Using progressively larger drifts to widen the slot to hole shape, then enlarge the hole to the desired size Forging on the horn to chamfer internal and external corners Using a handled ball punch and a triangular fuller Creating curves in the overall shape to make it more ergonomic This is a fun class that will allow you practice these essential blacksmithing skills and walk away with a handsome piece and the skills to make many more. Prerequisite: Any Discovery or Letter Opener Class. This class is for the experienced student. Students should be confident in hammer control and basic forging skills. This is NOT a class for beginners.

    Colonial Cookware II

    $175.00
Date: January 22, 2022 Time: 9 AM - 3 PM Location: Adam's Forge Would you like to add hand-crafted cooking utensils to your list of special skills?  In this class, Adam’s Forge instructor Leif Bennett will demonstrate Colonial Cookware with a mixture of mild steel handles and your choice of copper, stainless steel or mild steel ends that are attached with rivets.  Whether it’s a spoon, ladle, serving fork, strainer or spatula, the techniques are similar, and we’ll have all the tools and materials needed to get you started on your own complete set.  We’ll also include an optional wall rack to hang them on. This class will be offered in two parts, each of which can be taken separately.  In this second session, we’ll make the  Spoon, Ladle and Strainer. Skills practiced include drawing and tapering the handles, turning the scrolled ends, drilling, riveting, hot-cutting with a chisel, cutting and dressing sheet metal, precision bending the spatula and sinking the spoon shapes into the swage block. Seasoned beginners can expect to finish one implement during the class and more experienced smiths might finish two or more.  All will leave with knowledge of the skills to make more when time and circumstances allow.  These utensils can be used in the kitchen, for camping and at the barbecue.  They also make beautiful gifts! Each class will run from 9:00am-3:00pm with a break for lunch. Prerequisite: Any Discovery class plus 4 other classes or equivalent experience.  This class is most suitable for the advancing student who has familiarity with the skills involved and has developed stamina and basic hammer control. Iron Age Knife

    $175.00
Prerequisite: Any Discovery Class or Letter Opener class Date: January 15, 2022 Time: 9 AM - 3 PM Location: Adam's Forge In this class, Adam’s Forge instructor Will Larranaga will help equip you for a Viking adventure by teaching you to make a small iron age knife.  Not only is this an attractive tool, it’s also a pleasure to make, especially for those with little blacksmithing experience.  One of the advantages of this design is that it’s a one-piece knife; you don’t have the extra work of creating and attaching a handle. This enables you to bring home a beautiful and functional finished product. In this class, you’ll practice moving metal to specific dimensions, tapering and turning the beautifully curved handle.  You’ll also gain experience in learning to hold awkward shapes while striking them.  Hint: using the right tongs helps!
