Prerequisite: Any Discovery Class or Letter Opener class

Date: January 29, 2022

Time: 9 AM – 3 PM

Location: Adam’s Forge

Instructor: Gary Standke

Imagine taking a solid bar and, with a few bends, creating something truly complex. The spring swage is used to make isolated designs in material. They can be round, square, or as complex as you wish. We will be using this fuller in a later class to help make the leafing hammer head.

This class will go over how to calculate material for the projects you design, allowing for changes in length with changes in thickness, using mandrels to attain specified diameters, and a host of other useful information. We will then fire up the forges and should have no problem completing the project.

We are only using ½ inch round material so great strength and endurance are not required.

There are no prerequisites other than the Discovery day. So if you are ready for the next step in your exploration of blacksmithing sign up to have some fun.
