Date: December 30, 2021

 Time:  2PM – 10 PM

Location: Adam’s Forge

Would you like to make something in the forge that you’d be proud to mount on your door or give as a gift? This door knocker may be just the class you’ve been waiting for.

Adam’s Forge instructor Dossain Valencia created this project with the seasoned intermediate smith in mind. The successful student in this class will have good hammer technique and be able to forge to precise dimension.

Skills used include:

Using a guillotine tool to isolate material for the top leaf

Using a cross pein hammer to spread the Ginko leaves

Scrolling

Using the swage block and a fuller to create an off-set loop on the back plate and to create the smaller ring on the bottom of the larger ring

Drilling or hot punching and riveting

This class runs from 2:00pm to 10:00pm with an hour meal break.  While the material isn’t heavy and there won’t be a lot of strenuous hammering, we’re allowing extra time for the fitting and adjustments required to create precision work.

Prerequisite: Any Discovery Class.   This is not a class for beginning smiths.   Students who’ve also taken 2-3 project classes, spent time in open forge and have developed confidence and precision with hammer control will have a more satisfying experience in this class.
