Date: September 18, 2021
Time: 9 AM – 3 PM
Location: Adam’s Forge
Come to Adam’s Forge and make a set of decorated, fully functional tongs.
During the Covid slowdown, Mike Mumford busied himself making a series of decorated tongs that incorporate various images and motifs. We’ve included a photo of his full set of Funtastical Tongs for your viewing pleasure and Mike will bring examples of some of these for show and tell. Over the weekend of September 18th and 19th, we’ll be holding Funtastical Tongs classes in which you can learn to make two different versions of these. You can choose to take one or both classes.
On Saturday, September 18th we’ll make Skull Bolt Tongs – these are conventional bolt tongs, with a face feature added. These frightful jaws will hold your work in a spooky death grip. With their V-shaped bits and bowed jaws, bolt tongs allow the smith to securely hold square and round stock as well as the various shapes of works in progress.
This promises to be a fun class in which you’ll learn the skills needed to create your own, custom-made tongs from a very gifted instructor.
This class runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with a break for lunch.
Prerequisite: This class is most appropriate for the advancing smith with an interest in building skills and technique. While it is not required, we have found that students who have taken several project classes or workshops with us and/or spent time in Open Forge before starting this project are more successful and get more out of this class. All students must have taken a Discovery class with us.
