Come and get your bling on with Ellen Durkan! We are excited to welcome Ellen Durkan to Adam’s Forge for a 3-day class on Forged Wearable Art. Ellen is a prolific artist blacksmith who creates forged fashion from hot metal. She’s also a gifted Professor of Art and Design who generously shares her talents with several Universities, Colleges and Craft Schools.
This is a series of classes that begins with a talk and slide show on the evening of Friday, October 22nd and continues through the following 3 days at the forge from 9:00am to 3:00pm with an hour break for lunch each day. Those who sign up for the class will automatically have access to Friday night’s event at a separate event space. As spaces are limited and we expect demand to exceed supply, we’re offering the Friday evening talk as a separate event for those who would like to join us on the night.
The class is based around creating something to be worn around the neck. We will forge organic based shapes and design and fit them as a sculptural form for the body. We will start by forging multiples of a similar shape and incorporating them into a unique piece.
This is an opportunity to let your imagination run wild, while also working within the constraints of certain practicalities: how will you put it on and take it off? Does it need to be adjustable? Do you have a particular event or purpose in mind for your piece?
It’s a good idea to gather your thoughts and bring some sketches to class.
While this class is open to students from beginner to advanced, it would be most appropriate for advancing students who’ve developed stamina and hammer control.
We’ll provide all the tools and materials you need to complete your signature piece. However, if you have your own tools, feel free to bring them.
