Time: 10 AM – 2 PM

Location: Adam’s Forge

In this class we will sculpt steel with hammer, fullers and anvil to forge organic leaf forms.

The leaf motif has always been used to add visual interest to forged pieces from architectural work to jewelry and everything in between. Once you learn these techniques you can add leaves to almost all your projects. In this class we will demonstrate a variety of different leaf and foliage forms. They  can be made to look very realistic or representational depending on your preference.  This is a fun class in which you will get to exercise your creative license and let your imagination run free.

Here’s a list of some of the skills you will learn in this class…
Forging short tapers
Isolating material with half faced blows to forge the leaf pre-form
Drawing out stem material and turning it from square to round
Using the pein and/or fullers to spread metal directionally and suggest vein texture

Fold forming

Light upsetting and drastic spreading to create the ginkgo leaf

This class is a great way to practice your hammer accuracy and learn how to pre-form the steel to create the shapes you want to materialize. Think of it as a class to learn and practice making leaves that will adorn your future projects.
